Whirlpool will also be investing more money into building relationships with those customers in order to increase their market share. Lowe’s also provides a variety of services, such as tool rentals and installation services, home improvement advice and access to licensed experts in plumbing, HVAC, and more. Additionally, Lowe’s offers store-branded credit cards and home improvement financing, as well as PRO-level services specifically designed for contractors and professionals. It is known for its wide selection of paint, flooring, lumber, appliances, and home décor.

The Home Depot Supply rebranded under the new name HD Supply in January 2007. Five months later The Home Depot sold HD Supply to a consortium of three private equity firms, The Carlyle Group, Bain Capital and Clayton, Dubilier and Rice (with each agreeing to buy a one-third stake in the division). The acquisition of HD Supply is expected to position The Home Depot as a premier provider in a highly fragmented MRO marketplace, which the company estimates to be approximately $55 billion. HD Supply complements The Home Depot’s existing MRO business with a robust product offering and value-added service capabilities, an experienced salesforce, and an extensive, MRO-specific distribution network throughout the U.S. and Canada. Lowes also has efficient supply chain management and inventory systems, allowing them to stock the products that customers need and when they need them. This helps them meet customer demand and keep up with the ever-changing home improvement trends.
